Cool Chain Association

The CCA is a non-profit organization, founded in 2003, with the aim of synchronizing the cool supply chain in order to improve the quality of perishables and temperature sensitive products (PTSP) and thus prolong their shelf life and reduce wastage. Presently, approximately 30% of harvested fresh products decay due to incorrect handling and mistakes in the cold chain. As a result, the CCA and its members with the certification experts Germanischer Lloyd created the cold chain logistics quality standard, the Cool Chain Quality Indicator (CCQI). This standard is the first ever attempt to set standards for the entire logistic industry in the handling of PTSP and covers the complete cool chain from production to retail store shelf.

Focus

In order to eliminate the chain of mistakes in the cool supply chain we focus on every aspect. In 2010 the CCA are focusing on the start of the cool supply chain: the post harvest cooling! While many parts of the world have excellent food, produce, fish and meat products available from local production, few have the right facilities to make their fresh product fit for transport and therefore can’t offer their products for local consumption or export. The CCA Cooling Facilities Concept will offer – like the CCQI’s – solutions to post harvest cooling facilities, training manuals as well as a design concept for building the necessary facilities using the latest technologies.
